Shaheen HPC 101 training Spring 2019
Dear Colleagues,
The “HPC 101 Shaheen II Training Workshop Spring 2019”, was held on Thursday, January 31st, 2019 at 9.30 a.m. in the Library COMPUTER LAB room #3134.
The aim of this course was to give users of Shaheen II, Cray XC40 supercomputer, an introductory overview of the system and its usage, and to help them make efficient use of their allocated resources.
KSL team also provided an overview on recent features and services including the Neser pre-post processing cluster and the Cray Urika-XC analytics software.

- 10:00 am How to get an account and access to Shaheen II
- 10:10 am Programming environment and I/O on Shaheen and Neser
- 10:30 am Runtime environment and job scheduling
- 10:50 am Introduction to Cray Urika XC Analytics software
- 11:15 am Applications software example: Chemistry code like VASP
- 11:45 am Questions and open discussions with KSL team
Shaheen Clinic
When: 2:00pm – 4:30pm, Thursday, January 31st
Where: Building 1, Level 0, Room: 115
Objective:
- Getting familiar with Shaheen environment: e.g. job submissions, queues, architectures…
- One-to-One discussion with Shaheen support staff (Applications and Systems)
- Provide suggestions and advise to accelerate your application execution
- Discuss various challenges or issues during your job executions
- Trying to resolve your ongoing or current issues in the Shaheen
- Collaborative work with your projects
- If the 30-min. scheduled time is not sufficient to provide solution or unable to address the issue, a follow-up meeting will be scheduled and/or RT-Ticket will be created
